New highlights of Kubuqi photovoltaic sand control

As the construction of Kubuqi 2 million kilowatts photovoltaic sand control project of Mengxi base advances, the Kubuqi Desert neutralizes a piece of photovoltaic panels, and a piece of green landscape appears.

Late at night in the Kubuqi Desert head up to see a little starlight, under the stars, millions of closely linked photovoltaic panels as if the deep blue sea, far away from the booster station building and equipment room is brightly lit, a power supply and grid operation is underway.

On November 29, 2023, one of the first batch of large-scale wind power and photovoltaic base projects started in the “14th Five-Year Plan” period – Kubuqi 2,000,000 kilowatts photovoltaic project in the west of Mengxi was successfully connected to the grid. This is currently China’s largest single photovoltaic sand control project, with an average annual production of about 4.1 billion kilowatt-hours of green electricity, saving about 1.23 million tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 3.19 million tons. The project also synchronized the use of minimally invasive airflow tree-planting method, wind data method, unmanned aerial flight seeding and other advanced technologies to repair and manage the desert area of 100,000 acres. With the completion of the project, the local ecological environment has been improved, and in the summer, colorful cosmos bloom along the highway in the Kubuqi Desert.

A large number of pasture grasses and medicinal herbs are planted under the panels, and the breeding method of “livestock, poultry and grass coupling” is utilized between the panels. Three-dimensional ecological model of sand control to the desert put on a protective coat to prevent the flow of desert. The photovoltaic panels on top of the panels block the hot sun, lower the land temperature, reduce water evaporation, increase the accumulation of soil moisture, and build a comfortable “home” for the pasture and livestock under the panels.
